Babysitters and BlogTalk and Birthdays and Biscuits…Oh, My!
As usual, it’s a multi-tasking fest here in Mamalicious-land. But instead of feeling overwhelmed, I’m feeling good today. It helps that my morning with Mini-Me and BabyGirl was uneventful. They made it to the bus stop (which means I didn’t have to drive!), and they had biscuits for breakfast, which is always a sign of a good, relaxed morning around here.
After replying to some emails this morning, I’m rolling up my sleeves to get some cleaning done. I have a babysitter coming tonight, which is always a motivation for me to clean. Speaking of childcare, Love Isn’t Enough is featuring a piece I wrote a few years back, “A Little Help, Please?” as part of their series on race and childcare. A post-script: Tonight’s babysitter is black, a senior from the girls’ pre-K thru 12 school. She’s the 3rd black senior we’ve had babysitting for us in the past three years (why do they have to graduate, lol!). Talk about reversing a trend…
Speaking of writing, I hope to be able to share some exciting co-parenting-related writing news here in the next week or so…so stay tuned.
Speaking of co-parenting… CHECK US OUT!
Please join us–and/or tell a co-parenting friend–about this Sunday’s show: Helping Kids Cope. We’ll be discussing the impact that parental conflict has on children and some strategies for easing the experience of divorce, separation and two household living on kids. Our guests will be Brooke Randolph, a licensed mental health counselor and parenting coordinator; and Carolyn Grona who blogs about being an adult child of divorce at www.thegrownupchild.com.
In other news…
People are starting to ask me about my wedding dress and dresses for our girls, but I’m not even there yet. With BabyGirl and Mini-Me’s birthdays in November and December, respectively, plus Thanksgiving and Christmas, my brain is currently at planning capacity.
We did however book our first reception site last week. Since it’s not immediately following the ceremony, and since neither TechBoo nor I are sticklers for tradition (in this regard, at least), we’re thinking of having karaoke theme. I wish I had pictures to post because the place is lovely–an interior designer has converted the top floor of a warehouse into her design studio and filled it with a combination of antiques and pillows and sheers and heavy polished oak, all lavish and brilliant with color, with areas sectioned off into intimate little “parlors”. I can’t write a description that will do it justice. Here’s a pic I found online that still doesn’t capture the elegance and size of it:
Later in 2010, we’ll have a 2nd reception for the Maryland folks. We’re hoping it will be a combination reception-housewarming party, God willing we have found a house in MD by then. (Note to self: write a post about our marry-and-live-in-two-different-states plan).
Multi-tasking stats: While composing this blog post, I also…searched Target.com for the toy pet kennel-thingy TechBoo wants to get BabyGirl for her birthday, wondered what I’m wearing to tonight’s kindergarten parent potluck, and decided I would have a glass of Riesling with lunch today.
